About
The Allatoona High School Band Band program is committed to musical excellence. Allatoona High School is located in Acworth, Georgia in Cobb County, thirty miles north of Atlanta and is the newest high school in our district. Allatoona High School is in its’ seventh year, opening in the fall of 2008. We are named after the local lake, Lake Allatoona, which is also connected to Lake Acworth. Students in the band program at Allatoona may participate in Symphonic Winds, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Marching Band, Jazz Band, Percussion Ensemble, Winter Guard, or any of our smaller chamber ensembles. The marching band program is an integral part of the overall program at Allatoona. The Allatoona Marching Buccaneer Band is a three time Bands of America Regional Finalist as well as a multi time Grand Champion at many GA competitions. All of our Concert Bands have received superior ratings at our Large Group Performance Evaluation since the school opened in 2008 and our Winter Guard has earned several first place finishes. The Allatoona Band Program has continued to grow since its opening in the fall of 2008. The band program is now over 185 members. We would like to thank our middle school band programs and their directors for all of their support of the Allatoona High School Band Program as we begin our journey:
- Awtrey Middle School: Tara Melvin, Stephen Cagle
- Durham Middle School: Selena Sanchez, Matt Segars
- McClure Middle School: Connie McCardel, Ashleigh Rider
Marching Band
Represents Allatoona High School by performing a halftime show for all football games and by competing in marching band competitions across the state, southeast region, and country. They rehearse 2-3 days a week after school and occasionally on Saturdays.Concert Bands
Symphonic Winds, Symphonic Band and Concert Band
These classes consist of Allatoona High School woodwind, brass and percussion players. Placement is based upon auditions held in the late spring. All three groups perform concerts throughout the year as well as at select GMEA sponsored festivals.Percussion Ensemble
This group performs percussion ensemble music at various concerts and regional events. All percussion students are encouraged to participate.Color Guard
The color guard unit is a visual support to the marching band. Students who participate in the color guard learn to spin a flag, rifle, and saber, as well to use dance and movement to enhance the band’s performance. The color guard is the only section in the marching band to use non-band students. They may have extra practices in addition to the marching band schedule because the activity is very detailed. A Winter Guard program is also offered.Jazz Band
A select group of brass, saxophones and percussionists come together to make our Jazz Band. They meet in the spring and will perform at various local concerts and regional events.Mon
