About
In 2012, Albemarle High School Rowing was formed with two rowers enthusiastic about the sport. Within a few short years, the team has grown to accommodate twenty competitive rowers. Since inception, our rowers have been top performers at regional, state and national levels, bringing home numerous gold and silver medals. Today, AHS Rowing has become recognized as a highly competitive and distinguished sculling program. Our student athletes study hard, volunteer in our community, work jobs and still find time to rigorously train. Our rowers are accomplishing more than learning to row. They are kind and supportive, encouraging one another to continue to accomplish physical and mental goals. They are developing lifelong skills like time management, discipline, perseverance, tenacity, determination and humility. Because our team is a club sport we receive no funding from the school or county. We rely on donations, sponsorships and participation fees to sustain our program. Your sponsorship allow obtaining the resources our rowers need to participate in a sport that they love.

Albemarle High School Crew started as a club team in the spring of 2012 with Matt Korbon and Nicole Ward under the guidance of Coach Cathy Coffman. In the spring of 2013, the team grew to six rowers and the boys’ quad were VA state champions. During the 2012 and 2013 seasons, AHS practiced out of the Beaver Creek Boathouse in Crozet alongside Western Albemarle's Crew team. In the spring of 2014, the team moved their operations to the Virginia Rowing Association's boathouse under the auspice of Rivanna Rowing Club. Also in 2014, the team grew to 11 members, was a repeat VA state champion with the boys' quad, and placed third at the Scholastic National Regatta with the girls’ junior double. In the spring of 2015, the team grew to 20 members (including 15 novice rowers) and four coaches. In 2015 three boats had top finishes at the VA State Regatta, the Scholastic National Regatta, and the Stotesbury Regatta. 2016 was a banner season for the AHS Crew Team by winning four state championships and making to the finals in the five events entered at the Stotesbury Cup Regatta. With dedication and commitment throughout the years the team has continued to distinguish itself at the state and national levels. |
