The goal of the Academic Boosters Club is to promote and enrich the academic climate of the Mayfield Schools. Specifically, we recognize and reward academic achievement, scholastic improvement, positive attitude, and extraordinary efforts, as well as recognize, reward, and assist the Mayfield staff. Hundreds of students and dozens of staff members benefit each year from the various projects we support, such as Academic Hall of Fame, the Great Readers Program, Mock Trial, the World Affairs Club, the AVIS (Attitudes Visible in School) Awards, literary magazines , and numerous mini-grant requests for special classroom enrichment activities.
We raise our funds through an annual membership drive joined by over 400 parent and staff members, corporate and commercial sponsors, an annual reverse raffle, and other activities.
Formed in 1986, the Mayfield Academic Boosters Club is a volunteer organization dedicated to promoting and enriching the academic climate of the Mayfield City Schools. We recognize and provide awards to students in kindergarten through twelfth grade for academic achievement, scholastic improvement, positive attitude, and extraordinary effort. We also provide financial assistance to Mayfield staff members through mini-grants, which help subsidize classroom activities and materials. Mayfield is one of only a handful of school districts in Ohio supported by a district-wide academic booster organization.
Elementary and middle school students earning a high academic standing receive recognition during individual classroom presentations and honors day assemblies, respectively, at the end of the school year. Academic Boosters provides a monetary donation to each of the elementary schools and the middle school to be used for awards to honor academic achievement of individual students at these schools.
High school students earning a high academic achievement may earn awards including certificates, pins, and/or gift cards at a special breakfast and ceremony held in the fall and in the spring. Students in grades 10, 11, and 12 are recognized for achieving a grade point average of 3.5 or higher in each semester for at least two semesters.
Academic Boosters provides a mini-grant program that allows teachers from all Mayfield schools—elementary, middle, and high school—to apply for extra funds to be used for projects in their classrooms. We strive to fund academic activities that have a direct and immediate impact on large numbers of students rather than on individuals. These mini-grants are designed to encourage staff members to promote creative activities for their students.
The Mayfield Academic Boosters board consists of officers and chairpersons of committees (honors and AVIS awards, membership, fundraising, publicity, reverse raffle, practice ACT, and special projects). While each member has certain responsibilities, we work together to accomplish our fundraising and other projects. Our district and faculty liaisons provide information and support between the schools and our organization.
To carry out its activities Academic Boosters raises funds primarily through membership fees, a reverse raffle, and the practice ACT.
Our annual membership drive is joined by over 350 parent and staff members and corporate and commercial sponsors. Our membership form is included in the first day packet for each student at the beginning of the school year. The forms are also available in the school offices, on the Mayfield schools website, and at various school events, such as assemblies.
Our annual reverse raffle is held during February at a local party center with dinner included in the cost of the raffle ticket. Businesses are solicited to contribute money and/or items to be used as door prizes, which are randomly drawn throughout the evening. Side boards of different value are available for additional raffle drawings.
The practice ACT exam allows students the opportunity to be exposed to the previous year’s actual exam without it affecting their school records. The exam is open to students in Mayfield and surrounding districts in grades 6 through 12. A fee for taking the test is based on the number of exams purchased.
