Introduction

Giving Tuesday is here, and the weeks that follow offer an especially meaningful window for smaller community organizations to deepen connections and inspire generosity. Supporters are often in a more reflective and charitable mindset as the year winds down—some are looking to make final tax-deductible gifts, while others simply enjoy contributing to causes that matter to them during the holidays. For booster clubs, PTOs, membership groups, and small nonprofits, this stretch of the season can be a warm, genuine opportunity to engage your community, share your mission, and encourage contributions that help you start the new year strong. With thoughtful planning and a few well-timed initiatives, even the smallest organizations can create momentum and turn seasonal goodwill into meaningful support.

The team at Booostr thought it would be helpful to walk through eight practical fundraising strategies designed specifically for the post–Giving Tuesday period. We focused on blending theme ideas and concepts with actionable steps and integrated digital tools to help your team launch an effective end of year campaign in under 30 days.

Nonprofits maintaining strong and consistent communication can increase donations and support through the end of the year.

Strengthen Your Year-End Messaging With Warm, Consistent Communication

Estimated Time to Launch: ~6–8 hours

Don’t ignore this strategy. In many cases, smaller nonprofits are pretty sporadic with communication to supporters.  If you do one thing this month, sit down and set up a plan for regular outreach all month long. Consistent, heartfelt outreach throughout December can help supporters follow through on their intention to give before the year closes. This strategy centers on nurturing relationships and conveying genuine gratitude while reminding your audience why their help matters during this season.

Theme Ideas:

  • “Finish the Year Strong Together” message series
  • “Season of Impact” weekly storytelling
  • “Countdown to New Year Community Support” updates

How to Plan

Start by reviewing your supporters from the past year and organizing them into simple groups such as parents, volunteers, alumni, or local businesses. You can take it further by organizing donors based on how much they have donated this year and in their lifetime. By creating targeted groups within your contact list, you can more easily personalize your outreach. Tailoring your communication to each audience makes your messages feel more personal and meaningful. Families may appreciate progress highlights, while local partners might want to see community-wide benefits and different donor levels might be able to give more or less depending on their history.

How to Execute

Create a small schedule that includes a warm early-December message, a mid-month story-driven update, and a final gentle reminder during the last days of the year. Keep the tone conversational and appreciative—supporters should feel like valued partners, not targets of solicitation. This does not mean to not include links to donate or purchase memberships. It just means your ask for donations should be secondary to the message.

Helpful Booostr Tools

Use Booostr Contact Manager CRM to segment supporters, Email Marketing and SMS Messaging to deliver updates, Store Manager for membership and sponsorship purchases, and the Donation Campaign Manager to provide an easy, centralized place to direct year-end contributions.

Holiday focused Donation Campaigns can increase support through the end of the year.

Create a Focused Holiday Donation Campaign

Estimated Time to Launch: ~5–7 hours

A holiday donation campaign gives supporters a clear and festive avenue to contribute. By choosing a single focus, you make the campaign easier to understand and emotionally connect with during a busy time of year.

Theme Ideas:

  • “Holiday Cheer Fund”
  • “End-of-Year Impact Drive”
  • “Warm Hearts, Warm Future” campaign

How to Plan

Choose a donation goal amount and focus that feels specific and relatable—such as funding equipment replacements, scholarships, or next year’s programming. Gather photos, stories, or simple examples that help donors visualize the impact their contribution will make.  You will want to identify all of the channels you want to promote the campaign – typically email, social media and perhaps a simple mailer as well as timing of launch, messaging and ending.

How to Execute

Create a welcoming campaign page, email template, and social media assets to share updates throughout December. Small touches like donor shoutouts or milestone celebrations help maintain momentum and encourage additional participation. Ending with a heartfelt thank-you message reminds supporters that their contribution truly matters. You should plan multiple email sends for this campaign happening throughout the month. If your organization is  comfortable with Texting – then consider adding that as another communication channel as well.

Side Note: this donation campaign can easily be run as part or in conjunction with a Strengthened End of Year Messaging Campaign Strategy. They almost go hand in hand with each other.

Helpful Booostr Tools

Use the Donation Campaign Manager to host your holiday campaign, Forms to integrate into your donation campaigns and collect extra information, and Email Marketing to announce key moments throughout the month.

A Santa Fun Run can be a great opportunity to increase awareness and raise end of the year revenue in a fun community driven way.

Host a Santa Fun Run to Boost Community Spirit

Estimated Time to Launch: 2–3 weeks planning; 1–2 days execution

A Santa Fun Run is a joyful community event that brings families and supporters together during the holiday season. It creates a festive environment while generating excitement and additional revenue through registrations, merchandise, and concessions. This event should really only be considered by a slightly more experienced team.  We have seen these types of events go from idea to execution in under 3 weeks, so it is definitely doable. The key is, for the first year – start small. Consider it a test and if it does well, you can work it into your annual planning and expand it the following years.

Theme Ideas:

  • “Santa Dash & Cocoa Bash”
  • “Jingle Jog Holiday Run”
  • “Reindeer Romp Family Fun Run”

How to Plan

This requires a bit more planning, but can still be done quickly when teams are focused and working in parallel.  The things to consider are When it will happen, where it will happen, if there are any local requirements around police and safety, local individuals or businesses that can support the event and specifics around the event execution itself.  Most of the planning can be hashed out within a day or two, so you can start executing right away.

How to Execute

First and foremost, pick a date and choose a family-friendly route—such as a school track, local park, or community loop. With the date and location, start contacting sponsors immediately to let them know.  You don’t need to have all sponsors locked in right away, but if you have at least one, you can start promoting it with an initial save the date flyer.

To keep things organized, make sure to set up an online sign up for for racing participants to collect their information and their entry fees. Make sure to celebrate sign-ups as they grow.  You can promote updates through social media and email as you complete milestones. Meanwhile you will also want to consider event related things including: what participants will receive ie. Santa hats, medals, or hot chocolate afterward. Finally you will need to recruit volunteers early for check-in, water stations, and general support.

On the day of the run, use check-in stations, sell holiday merchandise if available, and encourage participants to share photos. Follow up after the event with thank-yous and a gentle reminder about year-end giving.

A team as small as 2-3 people is able to pull this off pretty quickly, as long as there are already some good relationships with local businesses and community.

Helpful Booostr Tools

Use Booostr Event Calendar to promote the event, Volunteer Manager for organizing helpers, Store Manager for merchandise, Point of Sale App for on-site sales, and Form Manager for participant registration.

Offer limited time holiday gifts, bundles and more to increase support.

Offer Limited-Time Holiday Merchandise or Gift Bundles

Estimated Time to Launch: ~8–10 hours

Holiday-themed merchandise offers supporters a fun, seasonal way to contribute while receiving something meaningful in return. Limited-time items naturally create excitement and urgency.  For this you can rely on local printers and providers and even work with local artisans.  The items do not have to be wholly branded with your organization but could be sold in partnership.  That being said having a local printer/resource to work with allows your organization to make completely custom items that can start selling while they are being produced.  If you stick to digital items, or bundling existing inventory items,  then this becomes a super quick way to add some extra revenue.

Theme Ideas:

  • “Holiday Spirit Collection”
  • “Winter Pride Pack”
  • “Festive Gift Bundle Sale”

How to Plan

Select 2–4 special items—like ornaments, hoodies, mugs, spirit wear, or digital memberships. If they are limited run items, make sure to position them as that.  If they are existing inventory or digital items, you may want to consider bundling them for added value. Choose designs or items that feel special to the season to help them stand out.

How to Execute

Add products to your online store with notes about limited quantities. Promote your collection through email, social media and/or text with warm, cheerful messaging. Offering local pickup at a school or community event can add a personal touch and reduce shipping costs.

Helpful Booostr Tools

Use the Store Manager for holiday items and gift cards and the Point of Sale App for in-person sales at events.

12 days of giving is a quick and easy strategy that can increase your organization's end of year revenue.

Launch a “12 Days of Giving” Mini-Series

Estimated Time to Launch: ~6–8 hours

A “12 Days of Giving” series is a creative way to highlight small, meaningful needs each day, inviting supporters to participate in a collective wave of generosity.  What we love about this idea is you can break out 12 different ways your supporters can help, and highlight each one, each day – and even have 12 separate micro campaigns set up. Alternatively, you can also set up a single campaign with 12 daily goals and perhaps an incentive for supporters reaching a daily goal.

Theme Ideas:

  • “12 Days of Community Joy”
  • “12 Ways We Make a Difference”
  • “12 Days of Support & Celebration”

How to Plan

Choose twelve mini-goals that showcase the variety of your organization’s impact, such as funding specific supplies, supporting individual activities, or helping with small upgrades. Attach simple stories or visuals to each day’s focus.  Set up your launch dates, messaging dates and channels as well as the end date.

How to Execute

Share each day’s spotlight with warm, friendly messaging through email, social media and/or text. Celebrate completed goals to build momentum. After all twelve days, send a summary of what the community accomplished together.

Helpful Booostr Tools

Use Email Marketing to automate daily updates and Donation Campaign Manager to house the campaign or multiple micro-campaigns.

Organize a volunteer drive to increase awareness of your organization and support your local community.

Organize a Holiday Volunteer Drive

Estimated Time to Launch: ~4–6 hours

A Holiday Volunteer Drive engages supporters who prefer contributing their time during the busy season. Volunteers often become donors later, making this a meaningful relationship-building effort.  Furthermore, volunteers tend to know other people that may be willing to volunteer helping to expand your organization’s network.

Theme Ideas:

  • “Give the Gift of Time” volunteer month
  • “Holiday Help Squad”
  • “Season of Service” volunteer series

How to Plan

Identify December volunteer needs—event support, concessions, concert helpers, or community service opportunities. Write short, inviting descriptions to help volunteers understand where they can contribute.

Side Note: If your organization is short on events during this time, consider offering to help another community based nonprofit and ask your supporters to donate some time there.  This is a great way to increase your community partner network and engage your volunteers with both yours and your partner’s organization.

How to Execute

Share a friendly sign-up form and highlight how volunteers make a difference. Send reminders as needed and follow up with sincere gratitude. Featuring volunteers in newsletters or on social media helps build a supportive culture.

Helpful Booostr Tools

Use the Volunteer Manager to organize sign-ups, Event Calendar for visibility, and Form Manager for collecting interests and availability.

Consider an end of the year membership drive or an upgrade drive or both combined.

Launch a Holiday Membership Drive or Upgrade Push

Estimated Time to Launch: ~5–6 hours

Holiday memberships or upgrades are appealing because they make thoughtful gifts and help supporters start the new year with renewed commitment.  Plus they make use of products you already have and also bring new attention to the Membership options to a wider audience.

Theme Ideas:

  • “Holiday Membership Cheer”
  • “Give the Gift of Belonging”
  • “New Year, New Membership”

How to Plan

Decide if you want to push more memberships or more upgrades or both. Because many memberships are digital these days, implementing a membership drive can be pretty easy with a lot of return on your investment. One idea is to create some additional limited-time perks—special merchandise, early access benefits, or bonus passes. Decide whether to offer discounted memberships or giftable options that supporters can give to friends or family. No matter if you discount, offer perks or gift to friends and family – always make sure your Membership benefits are simple and easy to redeem.  The more complicated your offers are, the harder they are to manage and the less interest you will receive.

Side note: If your organization has a great relationship with some local businesses, perhaps they can match or donate some sort of perk to include in the drive.

How to Execute

List membership options in your online store and announce them through warm, holiday-themed emails. Reach out to lapsed members with a kind invitation to reconnect before the new year.

Helpful Booostr Tools

Use Store Manager for digital memberships and CRM, Email, and SMS Messaging for outreach.

Set an end of year appreciation party for your supporters and donors to engage with your team and to solicit additional donations.

Host a Year-End Appreciation Gathering

Estimated Time to Launch: ~7–10 hours

A year-end appreciation gathering—virtual or in-person—helps supporters feel valued and connected, while naturally leading into a final year-end giving opportunity.

Theme Ideas:

  • “Holiday Gratitude Gathering”
  • “Community Appreciation Night”
  • “Warm Wishes & Year-End Thanks”

How to Plan

Choose a format your community will enjoy, such as a cozy virtual celebration, cocoa reception, student showcase, or simple get-together. Gather stories, highlights, and photos to share during the event.

How to Execute

Create the theme, identify the venue and set the date asap. Once you have those three items set, use Canva or another similar free program to create an initial Hold the Date flyer. As you nail down all of the details you can create an updated flyer to offer more specifics. Start promoting the gathering early and make sure you create a welcoming atmosphere. Spend time celebrating accomplishments and recognizing volunteers and donors. Close with a sincere invitation to support your year-end campaign.  Optionally include a silent auction or raffle to bring in additional revenue.

Helpful Booostr Tools

Use the Event Calendar to organize the event, Volunteer Sign Up  to manage volunteers  year-end gifts, Email Marketing to promote it in advance, Store Manager to  sell raffle tickets or merch in advance and Point of Sale App if selling food, tickets, or merchandise in person.
