Booostr Website redesign

Introduction

It’s the last weekend before Thanksgiving, and we have had a really busy week.  While we had a few updates pushed to production, this week we had none.  This has nothing to do with not putting in the work though! While we strive to continually push new fixes, updates and features live, every so often there is a week that it doesn’t happen.

This week the primary reason we did not push to live is due to a combination of factors. First, there was nothing urgent that required a fix or push. Second, some of the updates and fixes the team is working on are just not quite ready to go live. Finally, the majority of the team and time this week was spent on making significant headway on new features and the new website/application interface.  With the short week next week due to Thanksgiving, it is highly likely there will be minimal updates then too as we are hunkered down trying to get the bigger updates to an initial release phase.  Because we spoke a bit about the upcoming Volunteer Sign Up Manager release last week, this week we thought we would touch on the new site UX.

Booostr Website Redesign

So, perhaps the first question you have is, why are you going to talk about a site redesign? It’s just a new theme – right?  Wrong! (to put it bluntly).  This is actually a combination of a site redesign and adjustment of the technical architecture of the site and application, as well as much needed styling update across the board.

To get a little more specific, let’s start with the site architecture update. As Booostr has continued to morph and grow as a site and business – the original site architecture has been lagging a bit behind.  We have been making adjustments as we can to tools as they get released, but the overall structure needs to be reworked in order to better optimize the site. This is based on a revised direction we developed about a year or so ago with a focus on splitting tools apart to help balance out loads and ensure that at a tool level, organizations are having a seamless fast loading experience. This overall strategy has been extremely successful for specific tools and helped to better manage the higher processor and general server needs of those tools. What we have been working up to, though, is a readjustment of the core systems so that we start splitting systems down to the front marketing site and the application that runs the apps from each other.  Not only did this take a readjusting of the systems that run the site and tools, but it meant that we needed an updated design.  Luckily, it was time for an updated site and toolset design anyway!

That takes us into the updated styling that we are implementing.  Part of the styling is a slight branding update, but the bulk of it is focused on improving the overall user experience. From the front end positioning of the site to the internal applications and tools, the entire site is getting a make-over fit for a king!  The basics of what we have built and the navigation structure will remain, but how it is presented is going to be given the update it truly deserves.  We are incredibly excited for the updated site release from both a technical and a design perspective and CANNOT wait for you to see it!

Additional Weekly Updates

There were no updates pushed to production this week.

Items In Progress:

To continue our shift to transparent and open development of the platform, we also want to share some of the immediate things are that we are working on releasing.
